My mother experienced similar as she was entering late stage kidney failure. She would look up at the ceiling and say, “Oh, hi, I haven’t seen you in a while.” The last thing she said before she stopped talking was, “I wonder if my husband will recognize me when he sees me. It’s been a long time.” My dad had died 7 years earlier. Many will say she was hallucinating from the toxins of kidney failure but I found it quite comforting.
