I'm in the same boat. Everyone's always saying I'm not overweight but I have belly fat. I hate it and I'm now falling in the pre-diabetic range (just slightly). I am trying 15 minute HIT workouts again. I do the same thing to get through them. I talk to myself in the mirror, I make jokes, and I repeat my affirmations about being fit, thin, strong, and flexible. What I really want is liposuction!!
