Two sisters were hosting Jesus at their home. Mary sat with Jesus and listened. Martha banged about in the kitchen, preparing snacks.

Martha became irritated with her sister for not helping and admonished Jesus for not setting Mary straight! To her surprise, Jesus corrected Martha for having her priorities misplaced.

Jesus showed Martha that simplicity was needed in order to have a relationship with Him.

Martha was busy — and distracted — missing an important moment in her life.

Mary had perceived the priority of the moment.

The idea of simplicity in this context is learning to discern what is most important at the moment and letting the rest go.

Lord, life is busy and I may miss things because I am distracted. Give me the wisdom to choose the better part.
